The ‘Elsa Schmitt Tower’ observation tower is located on the northern outskirts of the Rhine-Hessian wine-growing community of Wendelsheim.
Thanks to a generous donation from its namesake, the Verschönerungsverein 1886 e.V. was able to build the versatile tower and rest area in 2019.
‘When the colourful flag flies at the tower, go and have a drink’!
The tower pub is open on the 2nd Sunday of every month from April to October. Changing food and drinks delight visitors, hikers and cyclists at the cosy rest area.
The Hiwwel route leads directly past the tower and welcomes thirsty cyclists, and the signposted ‘Elsa-Schmitt-Turm circular hiking trail’ starts here. This varied hiking trail leads along the forest adventure trail, the game reserve and quarries. The beautiful view of the open Rheinhessen hills as far as the Donnersberg rewards hikers on the tour.
