Beer needs home
Mainz is our home and our identity, our whole history, our naming, our beers - simply everything is based on Mainz's beer history. We didn't want to convert just any old building in Mainz, or move to an anonymous industrial area, it should be a historic place - in the heart of the city - to give Mainz a brewery you can touch. With the Kupferberg, we have found a unique location that we could never have dreamed of. We want to create places of exchange and interaction, to enliven places in order to make a positive, social and sustainable contribution to Mainz's urban development with our commitment.
Why actually Eulchen?
Animals used to be popular names for breweries. We chose the proud owl as the name-giver and heraldic animal. A nocturnal animal that fits perfectly with our high-quality beer. Due to our chosen 0.33 litre bottles and the melodious word, it has become the diminutive "Eulchen".
2013
We laid the foundation for the Mainzer Eulchen beer in 2013 as students with our final project "Rebellion against standard beer" and 2,000 home-brewed and hand-labelled bottles of Eulchen Märzen.
Mainz as a beer city
"Cervisiam bibat" - Drink beer!, recommended Hildegard von Bingen in the 12th century in her natural history treatise Causae et Curae. A few centuries later, not far from Bingen, beer became an important economic factor - in a town where hardly any traces of this ancient beer culture can be found today. Throughout history, around 50 breweries existed in Mainz.
In the middle of the city - in a historic location on the Mainzer Kästrich - we welcome you to our brewery bar - experience cosy hours in an informal and stylish atmosphere. Idyllically situated on the Kupferberg terrace - with probably the most beautiful view of Mainz - we also open our brewery garden in the summer months, weather permitting.
In our Eulchen brewery in the historic Kupferberg, we create unique beers in terms of quality and taste with our heart and soul, high-quality hops and malt and state-of-the-art brewing technology - right in the heart of Mainz.
Our new, state-of-the-art 10 hectolitre brewhouse forms the heart of our new facility.
