The Kupferberg terrace high above the city of Mainz is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. In 1888, the deepest sparkling wine cellar in the world was opened right below the Kupferberg Sekt premises, incorporating a vaulted cellar dating from medieval times. Visitors can climb down 7 storeys with up to 60 separate cellars of a depth of 50 metres below street level. The main building of the sparkling wine producers now houses a museum that is among the must-see sights of Mainz. To explore the cellars and main building, we recommend joining a guided tour.
