The name of this alley derives from a little wooden footbridge to the east of the gate, over which the knowing ones could enter the village late at night when the main gate was closed.
The Stiegelgässer Tor, first mentioned 1483, was the southern exit towards Groß-Winternheim, primarily to the numerous mills along the Selz.
Still preserved are the round towers guarding the former gate. The western one has a merlon wreath and external stairs. In the eastern tower a deep cellar is located.
