Until 1889, the so-called "Weed" was located here. This was an artificial pond where horses and other draught animals were washed and watered after work.
In addition, the Weed also served as a fire-fighting pond. The water basin was fed by a spring that rises in the "Im Schneckenbangert" field. Today it supplies the Weedbrunnen, whose overflow is led to Neustraße. In the summer months, the water runs above ground up to the Catholic church. In 1934, the milk house was built on the site of the filled-in basin. Whereas previously the milk had to be collected from the individual farms, the farmers from the village now delivered it to this central collection point. It was cooled in the milk house until it was transported onwards.
Incidentally, the square with its various functions also had significance as a social meeting place. In 1905, a Schiller lime tree was planted here to mark the 100th anniversary of the poet's death.
