DokFilm „Filmstunde_23“ von Edgar Reitz

The Essenheim Art Association presents the new documentary film "Filmstunde_23" by Edgar Reitz and Jörg Adolph. Edgar Reitz, the world-famous director of the Heimat Trilogy, appears himself: at a reunion of a special kind, whose origins date back to 1968. At that time, young director Reitz taught eighth-grade girls at a Munich gymnasium how to make films. He captures this groundbreaking, educational experiment in a documentary. The "Filmstunde" begins.

55 years later, in 2023, he meets one of his former students. They arrange a reunion. This leads to the creation of the documentary FILMSTUNDE_23.

In the film, Edgar Reitz's former students reflect on the significance of film education in their life paths. "Filmstunde_23" (Germany 2024, 83 min.) – edited from the 1968 documentary, the Super 8 films of the students, and the filmed reunion in 2023 – is a sort of long-term exposure of the last 55 years of film history.

An intriguing documentary and an invitation to engage consciously with moving images today. It comes with an appeal to finally bring film education into schools.
