The Freiburg native studied history, German studies, and singing in Freiburg, Berlin, and Dresden. He then lived as a German teacher and singer in Genoa, Berlin, Cologne, and Alsheim near Worms, where he has been living with
his family since 2013. Since 2022, he has been an assistant director at the Theater Freiburg. His publications include contributions to the anthology of the Textwerkstatt Darmstadt »steinbruch« (2013), the literary magazines »Federwelt« (2013) and
»Last Exit Poetry« (2017), as well as to the anthology of the Ponto Foundation's writing workshop »federlesen« (2014). Under the title »Song Poetry. Chansons for
Strays and Dreamers«, Joscha Zmarzlik also engages in songwriting and was a finalist at the Liederfest Hoyschrecke in Hoyerswerda and the DLF Festival Paris-Cologne-Wrocław. His debut CD will be released in 2024 by »Fluxx records« (Munich).
