During the extensive interior and exterior tour, you will get to know St Peter's Cathedral, which is often referred to as the ‘crown of the city’, and its special features. Together with the cathedrals in Mainz and Speyer, it is one of the greatest creations of Romanesque church architecture. Built between 1130 and 1181, it is closely associated with the name of Bishop Burchard and the heyday of Worms' city history during the 12th and 13th centuries. Major events connected with the cathedral included the election of Pope Leo IX in 1048, the Concordat of Worms in 1122, which ended the investiture dispute, and the Diet of Worms (1521), during which Martin Luther had to answer to Emperor Charles V, which led to a break in the Western Church.
