Natural history (s) - Protected by walls and gates
Stroll with us through Ober - Ingelheim and hear stories from the time of the knights.
Regional noblemen built their estates in this part of town. Defence walls, as part of the fortifications, were the guarantors for the protection of their worldly goods from unwelcome attacks. In addition, defiant gates prevented many a dodgy journeyman from entering the neighbourhood.
Everything was under the watchful eye of religion. The Gothic castle church, situated on the highest point of Ober - Ingelheim, accompanied Christian life in the families.
On our tour, you can experience the everyday life and beliefs of people in the Middle Ages. We tell you which plants played an important role at that time, why were they found in the gardens and on the edges of the fields?
We discover the secret of the wallflower in the cracks of the masonry, we look at old buildings and behind fences and admire the colourful autumn colouring of the wild vine and the maiden vine.
