Roman Day in Rheinhessen: We open the Sironabad in Nierstein

Nierstein
on 27.04.2025 from 12:00 to 17:00 o'clock

The Sironabad in Nierstein will be open to the public as part of the Rheinhessen Roman Day. The Nierstein History Society offers expert guided tours of this historic bathing facility. The thermal bath from the Roman era on the Rhine, dedicated to the healing goddess Sirona, is evidence of the healing effect of its sulphur spring, from which gout sufferers in particular hoped to relieve their suffering. One of those who sought and found healing was Julia Frontina, presumably the daughter of a respected Roman aristocrat. On a magnificent votive stone in the Sirona stone, she thanks the gods Sirona and Apollo for her healing. Coins and votive offerings found in the bathing area prove that this Celtic spring and spa was very popular at the time and that it existed in the 1st to 3rd centuries AD. No registration required No participation fee, donations are requested. Contact: Dr. Stephan Flessa, Tel: 0151-42067974, mail@geschichtsverein-nierstein.de www.geschichtsverein-nierstein.de
