German expression for the flavour of an aged wine. The word comes from Old High German "firni", meaing "old", or "year before". By now, the term has developed into an expression for aged wine, that is already several years old (for good wines that can be more than 10 years) and in which the aromas taste no longer aged, but "firn". Firn wines ussallyhave a very intense and dark colour (no longer bright and shiny, but dark to golden).
