In the largest wine-growing region in Germany, the wines of the winemakers mature authentically and hand-made and can not be surpassed in variety.
In the largest wine-growing region in Germany, the wines of the winemakers mature authentically and hand-made and can not be surpassed in variety.
For many years, the state capital Mainz and the region Rheinhessen belong to the illustrious circle of the Great Wine Capitals, a network of important winegrowing towns and their internationally known wine regions. The unprecedented quality upswing of recent years shows: The Rheinhessen wines cultivate this sophisticated image quite rightly.
But Rheinhessen also means cultural diversity.
In many places one meets the stone witnesses of great history. The dome in Mainz and Worms shape the cityscape as well as the Katharinenkirche the silhouette of Oppenheim. In Ingelheim you can still see the remains of the imperial palace of Charlemagne. Bingen keeps alive the memory of St. Hildegard von Bingen. Culture can also be found in the many southern wine-growing villages, for example in the Rhine-Hessian wine vaults, in jazz in the barn or art in the wine gallery.
Hiking and cycling in the wine country Rheinhessen
The hiking or cycling routes are just the thing for sporty ambitious visitors: the cyclist can discover the wine region on well-marked theme trails through the Rhenish Hessian hills or the Rheinhessen Switzerland. A dense, uniformly signposted cycle path network offers cycle routes for every requirement. The gently rolling vineyards also attract hikers with a lovely idyll and a vista that inspires. Predicate trails open up the most attractive corners; the RhineTerassenWeg between Mainz and Worms inspires especially hikers with an interest in impressive architecture.
