Winery Kapellenhof
The Schätzel family lives and works on Selzen Kapellenhof in the 4th and 5th generation. The vineyards are located on the sunny south and west slopes of Selztal. The white wines are mainly Riesling, Silvaner and Pinot. The Riesling is the most grown grape variety with 35% of the vineyard. The best Riesling is called Ökonomierat "E" after the ancestor and winery founder in the 19th century. Meticulous work in the vineyard from a limited start, removing double shoots, defoliation, yield reduction with the green harvest are prerequisites for a natural, quality-oriented viticulture for the winery. During a gentle vinification in the cellar, the peculiarities of soil and grape varieties are worked out, both with the traditional spontaneous fermentation and with the clear, fruity pure-yeast. The manor dates back to the 14th century and is still a listed building together with the large landscaped park in the English landscape garden style.
