Winery Meyerhof

The Meyerhof winery is a family business with 12 hectares of vineyards located on the outskirts of Flonheim. In addition to the winery, there is a "Rheinhessen AUSGEZEICHNET" wine store and since May 2014 have been 10 modern guest rooms. Thus, the wine experience at the winery is perfect and the wines can be presented in a great atmosphere. Various events round off the perfect wine experience, and the vinotheque can also be booked for celebrations of up to 75 people. Fresh impetus and new ideas come into the winery through the entry of the young generation - Alina Hammer, Rheingessen wine princess and graduate of viticulture and oenology studies in Geisenheim and her partner Sebastian Engel, who now completes a winegrower training after studying mechanical engineering. The whole thing is paired with the experience and traditional values of Daniela and Bernd Hammer. They work hand in hand to produce wines that are enjoyable. They act according to the motto "passing on the enthusiasm for the wine and Rheinhessen "and this enthusiasm and the ambition to produce unique wines are bottled and bring pure drinking pleasure!

English speaking visitors are welcome.

Meyerhof

MEYERHOF organic winery, vinotheque & guesthouse The Meyerhof - a symbiosis of winery, vinotheque and guesthouse. We, Alina and Sebastian Engel, are leading the estate into the next generation. Friends since school days, we fell in love with each other as students. I, Alina, studied viticulture at the renowned university of applied sciences in Geisenheim. My husband gave up his career as a mechanical engineer for me and also learned the winemaking trade. My parents Daniela and Bernd Hammer support us energetically, full of experience and with great goodwill. They took over the estate from great-uncle Artur Meyer, founder of the estate and still our namesake today. In 2017, we converted the sixteen hectares of vineyards to organic farming, which is officially completed with the 2020 vintage. We cultivate outstanding sites such as "LaRoche", "Geisterberg" or "Rotenpfad". With a lot of diligence and meticulous manual work, we work in harmony with nature. For healthy and fully ripe grapes.

Flonheimer Binger Berg

Flonheimer Binger Berg

Of mountains, seas and grape varieties

There are more than 30 kilometres between the village of Flonheim - in the middle of Rheinhessen - and the town of Bingen directly by the river Rhein. There are two possible interpretations of where the name comes from: The name could refer to the ownership of the Bingen Spital in the 14th century. Or a geological explanation: the Binger Berg - as we call it today - was formed over 30 million years ago. At that time, large parts of Rheinhessen were flooded by the primeval sea and one of the surf reefs ran along the northern side of today's Flonheim. A wide variety of grape varieties grow here in the clay marl with up to 40%  lime content.

Uffhofener La Roche

Uffhofener La Roche

The only vineyard with a French name

Hard to believe, but true: This single vineyard is the only one with a French name. It was owned by the Huguenot family La Roche from Erbes-Büdesheim. The dialect spoken in Rheinhessen actually used many French words. In the center of the single vineyard: one of the most famous landmarks of Rheinhessen, the trullo at the Geistermühle. A small, whitewashed round building. There are two of them in Flonheim alone. They are unique for the Rheinhessen region. Rieslings and Pinot Noirs of great renown grow here on red clay and sandstone.

> French words in Rheinhessen: for example Määr (French maire) for mayor or Schåndarm (French gendarme) for policeman. See: http://post.gabsm.de/mundarten_in_rheinhessen.pdf

Flonheimer Rotenpfad

Flonheimer Rotenpfad

Resting at the Trullo

There are two possible names here, but they are not mutually exclusive: The name of the single vineyard could come from the old German word "Rode" and mean "deserted". Deserted sites are abandoned settlements or farmland. Flonheim is known - apart from viticulture - for its sandstones, and the vineyard is located in the immediate vicinity of these sandstone quarries. The vines grow here mainly on loess, but also on Rotliegendem/Rigosol. Could the red soil pigments maybe be responsible for the name? The Adelberg rises in the middle of the single vineyard and is a popular hiking area. The trullo, a small vineyard house, is a great place to rest and enjoy the landscape.
