for the first time without distinction
This year was the ninth time that the competition for the Sustainability Award was announced. It has been awarded every year since 2012 as part of the opening of the agriculture fair Agrartage Rheinhessen in Nieder-Olm.
Rheinhessenwein e.V. awards the Prize for Sustainability to exhibitors at the large equipment and machinery exhibition in Nieder-Olm together with the Association of Former Oppenheim students (VEO) and the DLR Rheinhessen-Nahe-Hunsrück in Oppenheim.
The Sustainability Award honours products, systems, technical processes, developments or services that significantly advance sustainable management for companies in the wine industry. For the jury it is crucial that the submitted application convinces with ecological advantages, just as well as with socially responsible and economic advantages. It also needs to have a certain amount of practical experience.
This year again, interesting applications were submitted, that addressed topics such as environmental protection, the protection of soil and other resources, but also strategic consulting services that support long-term investment decisions.
The jury carefully examined and discussed all applications in a joint session. For the first time this year, no application managed to convince the jury in all three areas of sustainability - ecology, social responsibility and economy - therefore no award will be presented at the Agrartage Rheinhessen 2020.
The jury is sticking to its claim of doing equal justice to all three pillars of sustainability.
