The focus of the second tourism day in Rheinhessen was the importance of strategic foundations for effective, targeted tourism work.
In October 2018, the Tourism Strategy Rhineland-Palatinate was published in 2025. The coordinated guidelines are also supported by the regions. State Secretary Daniela Schmitt presented the country's tourism strategy as the basis and catalyst for a process of change that ranges from state politics through the regions to the municipalities. For the host region she finds words of praise: "Rheinhessen is a very good tourist destination. Here is the new tourism strategy 2025 already exemplified. With the cycle tourism development plan, the region is tackling a new, promising project. Cooperation is actively practiced. The cycle tourism development plan will further strengthen tourism - and the improved cycling routes will also benefit citizens. "
Landrat Dorothea Schäfer also emphasized the cooperation of all forces in her welcoming address: "The goals and guiding projects of the tourism strategy Rheinhessen have been discussed and agreed on a broad basis with many stakeholders. This creates a high level of acceptance that makes consistent implementation possible. "
This was confirmed by Petra Graen, a representative of the Nibelung city of Worms, in which she emphasized three regional cooperation projects: the regional cultural working group, which aims to strengthen the link between the region and cities, and the infrastructure projects in the areas of hiking and cycling. The efforts of Rheinhessen tourism to improve quality in these areas are supported by the city of Worms.
With the implementation of the flagship project "Realignment of cycle tourism" of the tourism strategy Rheinhessen 2025, the region wants to set new impulses for sustainable tourism development. The basis for this is the "Bicycle Tourism Development Plan", which was presented as part of the tourism day. Silke Heck from BTE Tourismus- und Regionalberatung managed in her presentation to summarize the extensive analyzes of the planning office on the actual situation of cycle paths in Rheinhessen in a nutshell: there is a need for action if you want to be and remain competitive as a cycling region. "Only if the quality of the offer is right, the success comes," says Christian Halbig, Managing Director of Rheinhessen-Touristik. "It is not without reason that the reorientation of cycling tourism is one of the seven guiding projects of the regional strategy. With the cycle tourism development plan we have a good basis for evaluating and optimizing our infrastructure. It is therefore very important to us that our municipal partners and the many top performers use the Tourism Day to inform themselves, to coordinate with each other and to commit to the common goal of increasing the added value of tourism. "
Future talks and best practice examples were presented in further lectures, with which municipalities and hosts can adapt to changing guest demands. Another big topic was digitization in the hospitality industry. Especially smaller companies were interested in tips on how to improve the visibility on the Internet without much effort.
The event was organized by the Regional Agency Rheinhessen-Touristik GmbH in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Worms, the Service Center Rural Area Rheinhessen-Nahe-Hunsrück, the DEHOGA Rhineland-Palatinate and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Rheinhessen.
