Flonheimer Rotenpfad

Also known as:
Erbes-Büdenheimer Rotenpfad

Resting at the Trullo

There are two possible names here, but they are not mutually exclusive: The name of the single vineyard could come from the old German word "Rode" and mean "deserted". Deserted sites are abandoned settlements or farmland. Flonheim is known - apart from viticulture - for its sandstones, and the vineyard is located in the immediate vicinity of these sandstone quarries. The vines grow here mainly on loess, but also on Rotliegendem/Rigosol. Could the red soil pigments maybe be responsible for the name? The Adelberg rises in the middle of the single vineyard and is a popular hiking area. The trullo, a small vineyard house, is a great place to rest and enjoy the landscape.

Flonheimer Trullo am Adelberg

Trullo auf dem Adelberg

A special feature among the vineyard cottages, which served as shelters for farmers and winegrowers throughout Rheinhessen, are the trulli. Like white sugar loaves, they shine between the rows of vines. Three of them can be found in the region around Flonheim. The name comes from the roundhouses that are mainly found in Apulia/Italy. In our region they were built in the 18th century as shelters in the vineyards, although there is no historical evidence as to whether the round houses from Puglia served as a model or not. One of the most beautiful trulli stands in Flonheim on the Adelberg. You can reach it on foot via the "Hiwweltour Aulheimer Tal", a beautiful round walk with beautiful views and resting places, one of them - with tables and benches - directly at the trullo. Should bad weather come up, you will still find a safe shelter in the Trullo.

Geistermühle

Geistermühle

The ghost mill is a historical mill farm with a beautiful half-timbered construction. Today the farmstead is a renowned winery. However, there are still some testimonials from days gone by in the mill, such as the old millstones. Technically oriented mill tours through the still completely preserved water mill are offered. During the tour, the passage from grain to flour is explained in detail.

Eingangspforte des Jüdischen Friedhofs

Jüdischer Friedhof Flonheim

The Jewish cemetery in Flonheim consists of about 60 gravestones arranged in rows, mainly made of Flonheim sandstone. The frequent arch-shaped endings have reliefs, e.g. neo-Gothic with tracery and also Levite jugs. Next to it stands a broken column. In the rear, last occupied section, there are some stelae made of black Swedish, a natural stone.

Vinothek Weingut Klosterhof

New house in old walls on the historic market square of Flonheim.
The Klosterhof is located in the historic center of Flonheim. In the period around the middle of the 12th century until 1554 there was an Augustinian canons' monastery with the name St. Maria. It is the home of the Rhine-Hessian Wine Queen 21/22 Juliane, who has been allowed to be ambassador for 13 wine-growing regions as German Wine Princess for one year since October 2022. Since 2006 Ralf and Anke Schäfer with their children Juliane & Philipp-Justus are the formative generations in the vineyard, in the wine cellar, on the potato field & in the vinothek. All family members contribute, each with what he does best, and above all with a lot of heart and soul. In the Vinothek Klosterhof you can taste wines, enjoy in the bar or linger over a cup of coffee & homemade cake. A small snack with the wine is also possible.

Vinothek im Weingut Strubel-Roos

Flonheim is just a wine crazy place. Here are our roots and that has already been like that for centuries. Our winery is situated at the Klostereck, here were reaally once monks. That's enough reason for us to put one on our label. We love what we do and it really is pretty diverse- winery and sparkling wine, hotel and café. Especially the sparkling wine is our passion. From unique base wines from our vineyards to the sparkling pleasure often is a long way. We do everything ourselves, from the selection of the wines, harvest, fine yeast bearings, bottle-ready, dismantling and equipping. We are looking forward to your visit in our Rheinhessen-AUSGEZEICHNET-Vinothek!
