What we do
Rheinhessenwein e.V. initiated sustainability in the industry in 2012. The kick-off event was the sustainability congress for the wine industry. At the same time, the Heidelberg Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (IFEU) was commissioned to carry out a sustainability analysis for the wine industry in Rheinhessen. Based on this analysis, key ecological and social indicators for sustainable development of Rheinhessen were worked out. The aim is, to implement those with everyone involved. By now, there are close cooperations with the „Kompetenzzentrum für Weinmarkt und Weinmarketing“ in „Dienstleistungszentrum Rheinhessen-Nahe-Hunsrück“ (DLG) in Oppenheim (Competence Center for Wine Market and Wine Marketing) at the Rheinhessen-Nahe-Hunsrück service center, with the departments of viticulture and cellar management at DLR, with Weinbauverband Rheinhessen, but also with various universities and state-owned specialist agencies. For suppliers and service providers in the wine industry, a competition has been held every year since 2012, giving out the Sustainability Award.
