Brel-Projekt: Jacques Brel "Vom Talent, nicht erwachsen zu werden"

In their new programme at the Haus des Gastes on Saturday, 19 October at 8.00 pm, the trio "Brel-Projekt" offers a colourful potpourri of chansons by the great Belgian singer, who shaped the "Chanson littéraire" in the 1950s and 1960s, entitled "Jacques Brel - Vom Talent, nicht erwachsen zu werden". His worldwide successes "Ne me quitte pas" (1961) and "Le porte d'Amsterdam" (1964) are unforgettable. Until the end of his career as a singer, he wrote hundreds of song lyrics, gave hundreds of concerts every year, his songs full of emotion and melancholy, which he performed on stage with a fascinating intensity, were often about love, friendship, pain and wanderlust, but he also did not mince his words in his criticism of society and various institutions. Cancer took the life of the 49-year-old in 1979.
The Brel project is dedicated to the life and work of this exceptional artist: Christian Küchenmeister on piano and clarinet, Herbert Stetter on guitar and Steffen Heieck as singer and presenter carry Brel's music and his French lyrics, which are translated or explained in German, into the audience's world of experience: What does it mean not to grow up when the world demands that you conform to conventions and stop dreaming? The programme of songs and texts from the 50s and 60s is a piece of musical and literary contemporary history that allows the audience to experience Brel's work in all its colourful facets and takes them on a musical and poetic journey through his biography.
