Reading with Eve Harris - ‘The Hope of Chani Kaufman’

Chani has made it. She has married the man she chose - not a given when you live in a Jewish Orthodox community. And now what? ‘Be fruitful and multiply’, of course, but that's exactly what doesn't work. Chani is desperate, because her husband Baruch can disown her if she doesn't give him any offspring. And who would she then be among her own kind? Between the rabbi, the fertility clinic and her mother-in-law, Chani has to outwit ‘HaShem’.

Eve Harris, born in London in 1973 to Polish-Israeli parents, worked as a teacher for twelve years, including at Catholic and Jewish Orthodox girls' schools in London and Tel Aviv. ‘The Marriage of Chani Kaufman’ was longlisted for the prestigious Man Booker Prize. Eve Harris lives in London with her husband and two children.

The reading by the author will be in English. Individual passages will be read aloud in German.
