The ingenious duo FrauContra Bass returns to KulturGUT Bechtolsheim. Frau Contra Bass have been reducing pop songs to their essence since 2003 and giving them a new lease of life at various club and festival guest appearances. They have their roots in jazz, soul and pop. With their minimalist, extroverted arrangements and their interactive, empathetic approach to the audience, they have been a special feature of the German live music scene for years and have already delighted listeners and critics with their four CDs to date. But nobody wants to pick it up again. Because the music is far too exciting for that. [Matthias Reuter] Her previous performances at KulturGUT have always been met with storms of enthusiasm, standing ovations, many encores and goose bumps all the way to the North Cape! Jazzthing “ It takes an enormous stylistic confidence to pull off a project like this. This duo has managed it. You should listen to it. Absolutely” Jazzpodium “The most feminine of all instruments, the female voice, meets the most masculine, the double bass. Both instruments are basically naked here, giving each other protection and finding a freedom that represents a risk at all times. ... Pieces by Elvis, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Tracy Chapman or Cole Porter have never been heard before in such a puristic way, filling their intended empty spaces as if by themselves. Very exciting.” Her current album “Kiss and Cry” features eleven cover versions, including classics such as Element of Crime's “White Paper” and songs by current teen heroines such as Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande, bringing virtuosity and goosebumps back together after a break of almost a decade. Spoiler: FrauContraBass's interpretation of Grande's top hit is far more sensual than the original and is the highlight of an album that is not exactly lacking in highlights, on which the duo experimented with overdubs for the first time, although they recorded most of it in one take.
