"In the most impressive film of 2022, the Polish old master Jerzy Skolimowski has largely given an animal its soul - a small gray donkey. But the donkey remains a donkey. You don't see inside the animal for a moment or suspect what it is feeling.

Like the donkey, the title remains foreign to us - EO is "Eeyore" in Polish. That is the small concession of the director, who has to describe his protagonist somehow; but this donkey is not proverbially stubborn (he is only that in our eyes). He is sometimes there, sometimes gone, only reacting situationally, according to his instincts, up to the tragic point where he acts wrongly - not so much making a decision as just trotting along the wrong path with the wrong colleagues.

A film donkey that is not humanized. That is what makes him great.
