Si, si - Silvaner. Nothing more than that! Matches pasta, fish, poultry and asparagus anyway - and yet, it machtes so much more. Many ingenious Silvaner combinations are still waiting for their discovery. Just lik this fascinating grape variety.
The Cistercian monks, who cultivated this grape variety at Lake Balaton in the 14th century, were the godfathers of Pinot Gris. While working in the vineyards they wore grey robes: the common Cistercian clothing.
Rheinhessen winemakers seem to have made a veritable pact with Pinot Blanc. Of course, as the viticultural parameters in Rheinhessen and the desires of "Weißburgunder", as Pinot Blanc is called in Germany, match each other perfectly.
Chardonnay places high demands on the location. It thrives best on deep, calcareous and warm soils. In autumn it matures quite late and is harvested shortly before Riesling.
The odour is acid, with a fine aroma and very fruity: pear, apricot, orange jam, sometimes red currant or icebonbon. All those aromas are characteristic for Kerner wines.
"A successful "Scheu" is a blend of fruit flavors that range from blackcurrant to yellow grapefruit and exotic fruits. Full bodied, very juicy and with lively but not pointed acidity, this wine acts like a kind of accelerated Riesling. "
Sauvignon Blanc is popular on the international wine stage. The grape variety is a real high flyer and is on its triumphal march around the globe. Sauvignon Blanc is also booming in Germany - in Rheinhessen there are currently 540 hectares of vineyards planted with Sauvignon Blanc - and the trend is rising sharply.

The Huxelrebe is the grape variety with the Janus face. On one hand, it can yield large quantities of uncomplicated wines, but on the other, it can also be the source of highly refined sweet wines with enormous storage potential.
