Gewürztraminer is one of the oldest grape varieties cultivated in Germany. Historical documents prove the existence of the variety back to the 16th century.
The grape variety with its name, that is rather hard to pronounce (and which humorously sometimes is referred to as the "ox ear" in some regions) has its origin in a natural crossing between Pinot and Weißer Heunisch.
