Winery Johanneshof

Our winery, a family business, is located in the heart of Rheinhessen just below Petersberg. Over the year, the work in the vineyard is quality-oriented. This begins with pruning and goes to selective hand picking. The gentle development of the wines, the typical odours and flavours come to full advantage. With passion and commitment, we take care of all the work involved in the operation of winemaking. The aim of our winery is to satisfy our customers with an excellent quality.

Dolgesheimer Kreuzberg

Dolgesheimer Kreuzberg

Simple wayside cross with view towards Petersberg

The single site runs west of the village, in the direction of Petersberg. It was mentioned in a document in 1501 with the name "am Crutzeberge". The site designation is based on an old field cross. A "Flur" is a delimited piece of land, thus an area designation. In former times one also spoke of "Flurnamen", quasi a similar counterpart to today's site designations. There is still a cross on the Kreuzberg today, but it is a classic, simple wayside cross. A bench invites you to rest. Different grape varieties grow all around on sand and loam marl as well as loess.

> Many vineyards contain the term "cross": Ockenheimer Kreuz or Oppenheimer Kreuz.

Gau-Odernheimer Herrgottspfad

Gau-Odernheimer Herrgottspfad (Lord God's Path of Gau Odernheim)

Steep up to the crypt, steep site for Riesling vintners

A path to the Lord God? Yes! Or at least almost. A steep path winds its way from Gau-Odernheim up to the 246-metre-high Petersberg, on whose spire stood a three-nave basilica with crypt dating from the 10th century. The remains of the crypt, which were found from 1947 onwards, are impressive: this architecture is otherwise only found in central Italy, and for Rheinhessen it is unique. The single vineyard takes its name from the processions that have led to the top of the mountain on church feast days for centuries. Full-bodied Rieslings with a high aging potential thrive here on clay marl. The Petersberg cultural trail offers a variety of insights into history, geology, fauna and flora - and leads right through the middle of this single vineyard.
